 | Founded by Gordon Hartunian the “warehouse”
concept for appliances and electronics began in
1963 with a single store location in Center Line,
Michigan. Weathering tough competition among
previous players such as Highland Appliance and
Fretter Appliance, ABC Warehouse has grown
from a single location to Michigan’s largest
appliance/electronics retailer. We currently operate
40 store locations within Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
In 1984, ABC Warehouse expanded beyond the
realm of appliances and electronics and purchased a
well known Michigan chain of mobile electronics
specialty stores by the name of Mickey Shorr.
Currently, with the recently opened Detroit, Michigan
location, Mickey Shorr now operates 16 store
locations in the Michigan market.
In 1990, sensing that there were opportunities in
the built-in appliance business ABC purchased
Hawthorne Appliance, a single store operation
offering a higher-end product selection. Shortly
thereafter, a second store was added. In early
2001, ABC purchased a locally well-known store
brand in the high-end housewares business by the
name of Kitchen Glamor. Kitchen Glamor was
added as a “store-within-a-store” concept to both
locations and now compliments Hawthorne by
offering top brands of bakeware, cookware, cutlery,
and kitchen electrics.
Despite the chain’s tremendous expansion, ABC
Warehouse continues with the same kind of small
family team environment with which they started
over 45 years ago. |
